This is a major area of intervention of VSSS. VSSS focuses on the 4 basic rights of children. In 1992, India ratified the United Nations Convention on Rights of the Child. The Charter of Child Rights (CRC) is built on the principle that "ALL children are born with fundamental freedoms and ALL human beings have some inherent rights". The Charter confers the following basic rights on all children across the world:

• the right to survival - to life, health, nutrition, name and nationality

• the right to development - to education, care, leisure, recreation

• the right to protection - from exploitation, abuse, neglect

• the right to participation - to expression, information, thought and religion

Our interventions focus to ensure the following:

1. The right to equality, regardless of race, colour, sex, religion, national,
    or social origin.

2. The right to develop physically and mentally in a healthly manner.

3. The right to a name and nationality.

4. The right to adequate nutrition, housing, and medical services.

5. The right to special care, if handicapped.

6. The right to love, understanding and protection.

7. The right to free education, to play and recreation.

8. The right to be among the first to recieve relief in time of disaster.

9. The right to protection against all forms of neglect, cruelty and exploitation.

10. The right to be brought up in a spirit of tolerance, peace and
      universal brotherhood.

Vijayapuram Social Service Society works for the creation of a new community vibrant with the values of love, justice, peace, fraternity, cooperation and mutual concern. Right from the beginning the Society has been concentrating with high priority on the development of Children. We hold the dictum “Today’s child is tomorrow’s citizen”. Therefore, it is our paramount responsibility to inculcate values in the children and grow them with sublime vision. Children have to grow mature
We envision Vijay Balavedi as an ongoing systemic process to develop the Children physically, mentally, intellectually, spiritually, culturally and socially. The specific interventions proposed for the Balavedi are physical and cultural talent development trainings, general knowledge development classes, celebrations, family gatherings, study and entertainment tours, holiday study camps and workshops, Social works, Awareness training programmes, Parents’ gatherings and promotion of thrift.

The primary responsibility to bring out, train and develop the innate latent but dynamic talents of children vests with the parents. Therefore, the parents also have to involve themselves in the promotion and efficient conduct of the Balavedi. We are convinced that all the children and their parents who actively participate in the Balavedi activities will, in the future, become the proponents of a value-based society. This is an opportunity opened up for the children to be agents in the creation of the new society/community that Vijayapuram Social Service Society dream of.

This is one of the major shifts in our operationalization of the Sponsorship Programme supported by PARTAGE.
