50 YEARS MOVING WITH THE TIMES AND STAYING WITH THE POOR

Vijayapuram Social Service Society is in a jubilant mood.  It celebrates its Golden Jubilee from 2^nd October 2010 to 2^nd October 2011.  This is planned as a year of grand celebrations – celebrations in song and dance, in art and drama, in study and research, in prayer and retreat, in graphics and print!  Celebrations are a call to review and renew and relaunch VSSS’s Mission and Vision.

In fact, in the 365 days between 2^nd October 2010 and 2^nd October 2011 we will be witnessing some of the most memorable events in the annals of the Society.  These events will bring together the people at various moments and in different locations in the true spirit of joyful sharing.

Jubilee is considered as a period to look into the past, in order to make it a relevant response to the needs of the world of the third millennium, in creative fidelity to Church’s Social Mission, in re-committed dedication to the service of the people, in unconditional participation in the struggles and anxieties of the people.

The year long celebrations of the Society were inaugurated on the 10^th of September 2010 at Amalanilayam, the Central Office of Vijayapuram Social Service Society.  Jubilee Flag was hoisted by His Excellency Rt.Rev.Dr.Peter Thuruthikonam, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Vijayapuram.  His Excellency Rt.Rev.Dr.Sebastian Thekethecheril, Bishop of Vijayapuram declared and inaugurated the Jubilee Year.  Sri.V.N.Vasavan M.L.A. of Kottayam inaugurated the Swagathasangham and its office.  Rev.Fr.Romance Antony, Executive Director, Kerala Social Service Forum released and pronounced the year-long programmes.  Very Rev.Msgr.Jose Navez, Vicar General and President of VSSS declared the Jubilee Projects – Educational Endowment, Housing, Marriage support for poor girls, Neethy Medical Shop.  Sri.P.J.Varghese, Kottayam Municipal Councilor, Rev.Fr.Michael Vettukattil, Executive Director, Kottayam Social Service Society, Very Rev.Msgr.Mathew Muttethazhath and Rev.Fr.Jose Kalathil, former Presidents of VSSS, Very Rev.Mother Little FlowerCTC, Provincial Superior, Fatima Matha Province, felicitated.  Rev.Fr.Thomas Tharayil, Executrive Director extended warm welcome and Mr.Michael D’Cruz, Coordinator, Jubilee Committee proposed Vote of Thanks.

We entrusted ourselves, our people and the year long programmes to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, the Patroness of the diocese on the 2^nd of October 2010 at a solemn High Mass at Vimalagiri Cathedral, that we may become living witness to her son’s boundless love.  This was also a grateful dedication to the galaxy of valiant forerunners who brought out VSSS’s Vision and Mission, nurtured its growth by their toil and sacrifices and left behind a splendid testament of total dedication in the service of growth, development and empowerment of the people.
